Minutes –June 15, 2010

Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm. Twenty nine members and one guest present.

Gary Prill has been checking on materials to be used for “club badges”. This spring club members have been invited to participate in several different “events” around the City. The “club badge” will be a way for us to identify ourselves and also help advertise our club.

Lee Fenicle and Mary Ann Wendland have now officially retired from working at Creighton University. HAPPY RETIREMENT!! Lee has donated several books from his collection to the club. What a wonderful gift Lee. Thank you very much. Anyone interested in checking out a book should go to the web site, check the list and notify Dhruba. He will bring the book to the next scheduled meeting.

Matt Miller is our guest speaker this evening. He has been a photographer with the Omaha World Herald for several years. You may view a collection of his work at Matt Miller Photo.com. Thanks Matt we enjoyed “traveling” with you this evening.

OCC MEETING 5/18/2010

The meeting was called to order by Gary Prill at 6:30 p.m. 29 members and guests were present.

Kim Singletary from the Omaha Children’s Home informed OCC about the upcoming fund raising event for the Home. 
Omaha Children’s Home does not charge fees for adoption.  Sand in the City is a major fund raiser and it is held during
the 1st weekend in June, at 10th & Capitol.  Sand sculptors compete to raise funds for the Home. 
They are  looking for volunteer photographers to help record the event.   Contact Kim at   singletary@ochsfoundation.org

Tom Neal from the Cox Classic Golf Tournament spoke about event (July 25-Aug 1).  They are looking for volunteer photographers.  See the OCC website blog for more information. You can sign up for two hour sessions or more.

*Druba Chakravarti shared his recent trip to India.
*George Sinos showed a panorama made of 15 separate shots of Omaha over the Missouri river.
•Mark Kresl showed portraits of two African models.

*Theresa Cassiday showed pictures of the Dutch Festival parade and flowers in Orange City, IA.

Minutes – April 6, 2010

Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm. Thirty two members present.

Gary Prill has sent an email to the membership requesting suggestions for “assigned subjects” for the 2010-2011 club year. Please have your selections back to Gary by the 10th of April. After the list has been compiled you will be asked to vote for eight “subjects”. Gary will announce the results during the May business meeting. After the new assigned subjects are announced you may begin shooting those subjects for the next club year competition.

We are rapidly approaching the end of our club year. Nominations for officers and chairpersons are open. Suggestions welcome.

Mel Mann has been contacted by N4C regarding judging of a digital competition. OCC will judge a regional competition during the month of October, 2010. For those members that have not participated, it is a wonderful opportunity to see what other clubs present for competition.

Mel Mann has also found several photo competitions for club members to enter. Anyone interested, contact Mel for details.

Jeff Swanson and Sam Bennett have organized a new photo club at Heron Haven located just east of 120th and Maple (northeast corner – about 118th St). Their meeting date is the third Saturday of the month at 10 am. Additional information may be found at Heron Haven.org.

This is our final “Print Night” for the year. On with the show! Congratulations to all!

Gary Prill called the meeting to order at 6:38 p.m.  Gary reminded all that the OCC website is open to all members.  You can post information on the website or just blog with others at the site.

Thank you to Theresa Cassidy for her 1st class home baked cookies.

Mel Mann demonstrated how to turn one picture into a kaleidoscope. 

Mel also shared information from a national wildlife photographers convention.

Mel will be happy to coordinate your photo entries into PSA competitions.

The main event of the evening was a Special Presentation by 

 Rick Neibel from Snitily-Carr Advertising Company in Lincoln. Rick is the staff still  photographer whose major assignment is to contribute photos for the Nebraska Tourism Magazine and brochures.  Rick's took many of the cover photographs for the magazine and he gave us a tremendous  program with lots of tips and hot spots about photographing in Nebraska.  He also shared some of his great photos from his over 30 years as a professional photographer.

The assigned subject for April is "Natures Fury"   Prints will be due on March 2nd.
